Jessica Rounds Cape Horn, Visits With Parents

A sixteen-year-old Australian solo circumnavigator rounded Cape Horn this morning, surfing down high seas before 35-knot gusts and waving to the folks back home cheering her on.

Despite the conditions, rounding Cape Horn was amazing,
The highlight of the trip to date!

Jesse's parents flew over  the boat in a chartered plane, chatting with their daughter for 45 minutes by radio.

I'm going to be sentimental with this link, which demonstrates the kind of parental support that enables such an extraordinary young woman to attempt this sailing feat.

Australian media are full of Watson stories. In its national pride, the nation seems to have forgotten about the controversy surrounding her departure and the debate about whether she ought to be permitted to to attempt this world record.

Meanwhile, in California,  Abby Sunderland plans to depart on her voyage Monday.
